About the Breed:

The Miniature Schnauzer, the smallest of the three Schnauzer breeds, is a generally healthy, long-lived, and low-shedding companion. It possesses an outgoing personality, a portable size, and is an ideal family dog.

These stocky, robust little dogs stand 12 to 14 inches tall and were bred down from their larger cousins, the Standard Schnauzers. The bushy beard and eyebrows give Minis a charming, human-like expression. Their hard, wiry coat comes in four color patterns: salt and pepper, black and silver, solid black, and solid white.

Created to be all-around farm dogs and ratters, Miniature Schnauzers are tough, muscular, and fearless without being aggressive. They are bright, friendly, and trainable companions, small enough to adapt to apartment life. They get along well with other animals and children, are sturdy, and enjoy vigorous play. Additionally, they are home and family-oriented, making them great watchdogs.

Brief History about the Breed:

With a lineage going back to the 15th century, Standard Schnauzers were originally bred down to miniature size to work better as fearless barnyard ratters, showcasing their tenacity and agility in a compact size.

Grooming:

The Miniature Schnauzer has a double coat and wiry topcoat with a soft undercoat that requires frequent brushing, combing, and grooming. For the show, their coat is usually stripped by hand. As a pet, Miniature Schnauzers owners choose to have the coat trimmed with clippers by a professional groomer. This should be done every five to eight weeks. Bathing can be done once a month.

Exercise:

Alert and lively, Miniature Schnauzers require regular daily exercise to maintain their mental and physical health. They have a medium energy level and can easily adapt to city or country living.

Training:

Miniature Schnauzers are friendly, lively, and eager to please, and they learn quickly. They have a very high intelligence level, that's why they make an excellent companion. They can do very well with canine sports, including agility, obedience, rally, and earth dog events.
